Today is August 4th
Today is August 4th.
It’s a Thursday, and I am on Ustica.
I’m sitting on the porch, and I can hear the cicadas and people chattering in the distance.
The cars drive by on the road below.
The bougainvilleas dance in the breeze.

Maybe I will leave tomorrow, or the day after.
I don’t know what waits for me when I return.
What has passed in the days since I’ve been gone? And what has changed within me?
Today is August 4th, and I don’t know what tomorrow brings.
Will I sit on this porch again, or do new views await me?

The beautiful things usually come by their own.
So make them feel welcome.
I can only be content with everything I already have, to express my appreciation for what is coming.

Today is August 4th. Today I will sit and listen to the cicadas. Maybe later I will go for a swim, my friend leading the way as we climb along the volcanic rock.
We will make fried zucchine for lunch, with spaghetti, and maybe some eggplants.
I’m sure we will laugh, and smile.
A little day in Ustica, with love.
And I will try not to think about tomorrow.
In my heart I know that what’s coming will come, all in it’s own way.
love,
greer
